The Advanced Concepts business sector provides rapid prototyping capabilities to
Aurora and its customers. With over 20 years of experience and more than one new
flying prototype per year, Aurora has a proven history of taking the most challenging
air vehicle designs from concept to flight test in record time.
Leveraging the company's expertise in aerodynamics, wind tunnel testing, flight controls,
out-of-autoclave composite, low cost tooling, advanced propulsion, avionics, and software
as well as critical elements such as Aurora’s Common Mission Computer and STANAG 4586
compliant ground control station, the Advanced Concepts team can mature a design and
deliver flight test data quickly and affordably.
In addition to designing, fabricating, and testing, Aurora also provides valuable experience
interfacing with the FAA to allow flights of unmanned vehicles in the National Air Space,
or other certifying authorities on restricted ranges.
The Advanced Concepts engineering team is distributed throughout the company. Manufacturing
is divided primarily between the Columbus Mississippi facility and Aurora’s product development
center in Manassas, Virginia. Both locations have extensive composite and metal prototyping capabilities.
Advanced Concepts is also the home of the Conceptual Design Group providing analysis and
design for programs in their infancy including trade studies and vehicle design optimization
for internal and external customers.
